ED Raids Chhangur Baba: Foreign Link Surfaces, Probe Takes a New Twist

A major twist came when Croatian currency was found on the mobile phone of Shahzad Sheikh, a key associate, sparking concerns about possible international funding. The agency is also probing financial links between Shahzad and Naveen alias Jalaluddin, another core member of the alleged syndicate.

ED Raid at Chhangur Baba’s Locations Uncovers Foreign Link, Investigation Takes a New Turn (Image Source: Social Media)

The troubles of Chhangur Baba, who is allegedly running a syndicate involved in illegal religious conversions, are escalating. While the Uttar Pradesh ATS is already investigating the case, now the Enforcement Directorate (ED), a central agency, has also stepped in to probe Chhangur Baba’s immense wealth. On Thursday morning, the ED raided a total of 15 locations connected to Chhangur Baba and his associates. During the hours-long raid, ED officials discovered several crucial leads.

A close associate of Chhangur Baba, Shahzad Sheikh's home was also raided in Mumbai. During this operation, the ED found a photo of Croatian currency on Shahzad’s mobile phone. This discovery has now raised serious questions: Was this conversion racket spread across international borders? And was it being funded from abroad?

Shahzad – A Close Associate of Chhangur Baba’s Confidant

It is worth noting that Shahzad Sheikh is closely associated with Naveen, who is believed to be a key confidant of Chhangur Baba. The ED has also gathered information related to land sold by Shahzad and other financial transactions. During the raid, the ED found documents linked to property worth over ₹40 crore connected to Chhangur Baba, his son, his confidant Naveen, and an associate named Neetu. The agency seized property documents of Baba’s house, his son’s residence, and the assets held by Naveen and Neetu.

ED Raids 15 Locations Linked to Chhangur Baba Syndicate

The ED concluded its raids on Thursday at 15 locations linked to Chhangur Baba's syndicate. Out of these 15 locations, 12 were in Balrampur, 2 in Mumbai, and 1 in Lucknow. The ED also raided the residence of Rajesh Upadhyay, another individual associated with the syndicate, located in Lucknow.

Rajesh Upadhyay posted as a clerk at the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in UP's Balrampur. It has come to light that land was purchased in the name of Rajesh’s wife. The agency raided his home in Chinhat, Lucknow, on Thursday. Raids were also conducted at his Mumbai residence in Bandra and Mahim.

ED Raids 2 Flats Belonging to Shahzad Sheikh

A raid was conducted at Shahzad Sheikh’s flat in Kankia Paris Apartments, Bandra East, located on the 20th floor of F Wing, Flat No. 2003. This building is registered in the name of his wife, Nazreen Sheikh. Another raid was carried out at Rizvi Heights CHS, Flat No. 502 in Mahim West.

The flat is registered in Shahzad’s name and currently occupied by his sister. In Balrampur, land owned by Shahzad was purchased by the Chhangur syndicate. It has been revealed that ₹1.20 crore was transferred from the account of Naveen, alias Jalaluddin, to Shahzad’s account. The raids also uncovered several objectionable documents.
